So much for posting late on Saturday or Sunday at all! What a busy couple of days. I had to get myself back in to the swing of things and ready to return to work today. Pretty tough considering that this was the longest vacation I have had since my son was born. It was good to refresh and get the batteries recharged for what is shaping up to be a fantastic year.
Update from Sunday...
Sunday Meals
Breakfast - Eggs, bacon, coffee
Snack - Protein shake, almonds
Lunch - Teriyaki chicken, rice, peppers, onions
Snack - Banana with dark chocolate almond butter
Dinner - Hawaiian chicken, pineapple, green bell pepper, broccoli
Snack - Baked Doritos, beer (don't judge me)
Sunday Workout
moving furniture from house to garage
shopping for storage pieces for house
(once again, don't judge me)
As you can see, Sunday was a rest day and was supposed to be a cheat day but my body was craving real food (well, except for the impromptu Doritos and beer). As for today, it should be a different story. It's back to my regular routine and I am super pumped about it. It's amazing how after you start working out, your body craves it...
Monday Meals (planned)

Landrunners bound...
Stayed up late last night to finish the OSU-Mizzou Cotton Bowl game so I didn't get a chance to post. What a game!!! Too bad the Cowboys couldn't pull it out.
This morning marked the first training run with the Landrunners for the Memorial Marathon. 6am came very early but it's all about the dedication. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and was just over 40 with about a 15 mph sustained south wind. Was only chilly a few times. Got in 6 miles this morning and had a fantastic running partner as always ;-)
Came back to the Griffin-Kaufman residence to fuel back up and then headed to Crossfit in about 30 minutes. Hopefully will get to post later and will update on food intake and happenings for the day. I can tell you right now, after Crossfit, there will definitely be some resting in my future.
So long for now...

BOOMER SOONER!!!
What else can I say, except BOOMER SOONER, BABY!!! My beloved Sooners just took down the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. A place where, yes, we got trampled in 2004 by a LSU team that made me hate that state still to this day. All we need to happen now is for those OSU Cowboys and the Florida State Seminoles to take care of business in the Cotton Bowl and the BCS National Championship to take out the best 3 teams in the so-called "best conference in college football, the mighty SEC...pfsh! Clowns...
To say the least, I had a great day and although it didn't yield any exercise of any sort, there was plenty of rest. It is very important to have those days along with a cheat day for your meals. Today, I did both. I know what you are saying "but Jason, it's a Thursday. Aren't most rest/cheat days on Sunday and are you supposed to do them together?" I will answer that in 2 ways. One, I have been off work for the past 10 days and all of my days have started to run together. Two, it just happened to fall that way for me this time. Most of the time, I won't combine the two so my body doesn't think I am resorting to my old ways. My mind, 1, my body, 0.
Meals for the day
Breakfast (Old School Bagel Cafe)
Ham, egg and cheese on jalapeno cheese bagel, sour cream and chive cream cheese, coffee
Lunch (Dominos Pizza)
Leftover pepperoni and onion pizza, spinach and feta breadsticks
Dinner (Louie's)
Queso, chips, chicken salad sandwich, tomato soup, Spiked Lemonade
While my meals were not healthy at all, I thoroughly enjoyed them and got my fix in for the week. Now I can focus on my training and my food "fuel" for the rest of the week.
Once again, BOOMER SOONER!!!

First run of 2014
Today marked the first day of 2014 and we started it off with a bang! We ran the Blastoff 5k in downtown Oklahoma City and I have to say it was pretty darn cold. Running in the cold weather is pretty great though because of 2 reasons..you can always shed clothing as you get hot and you don't feel your legs so you feel like you can run forever!
This was the very first race for my little brother, Josh, and I am so proud of him. He had only begun running a couple months back and he PR'd his time by over 1 1/2 minutes. He had only run a 5k on a treadmill in perfect gym conditions with no inclines or declines. The run today was cold, windy and had many various inclines and declines to test him and he still made it happen! He was a trooper.
Tonight will be the second workout of the day and it will be of the CrossFit variety. I have posted what we will be tackling below. It is a partner WOD (workout of the day) so I will be doing it with my girlfriend and we will be splitting the different parts of the workout. If you have any questions about what any of the movements are below, you can google them or just ask in the comments...
Row 1500m
50 WB Shots
50 Toes to Bar
50 Burpees
Row 1000m
25 WB Shots
25 Toes to Bar
25 Burpees
Row 500m
10 WB Shots

New Year's Day - A Great Start
As this is the first post of this blog as well as being the first blog of the New Year, I figured I would explain why I am doing this.
For the last year, I have been faced with adversity that I would have never seen coming. Many things have changed in my life both professionally and personally. I have met some amazing people, had some great times, loved with all of my heart and changed many things about myself both physically and mentally. I have learned more about myself in 2013 than I think I ever have in any other year of my life, which is crazy to say considering it was my 31st year of life :)
One of the things I have learned the most about is fitness and how to take care of your body. I have done research, pushed my body to limits that I didn't think I would and have come out better for it in many ways. This blog will be dedicated to sharing the experiences that I will be having both in life and on my training path towards my next goal, running the full Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
If you know me at all, you know that I am down to try just about anything athletic. In the past year and coming in 2014, I have/will have done CrossFit, kickboxing, distance running, trampolining, heavy workouts etc. The thing that I am most amazed about is the toll that these things take on your body, especially when you are not getting the proper nutrition.
I don't believe in New Year's resolutions because most of the time they fail due to the amount of stress many people put on themselves. A resolution is all about execution. You have all seen this happen with the folks that will get that gym membership and start out strong in January and fade by month's end, or the people you will see who vow to make a budget and destroy it by the end of the first quarter of the year because they fall back to their old ways or even those folks who say they are going to eat better yet their first trip to the grocery store nets them something eerily similar to their last one (many frozen "diet" dinners, an assortment of processed foods etc) Most people don't stop because it's too hard; they stop because it's change and they are not mentally prepared for it nor have they properly accounted for the changes that are about to come ahead of time. This is why I never make resolutions; I just make lifestyle changes. A lifestyle change takes thought and preparation along with execution. If you set yourself up to succeed, you will succeed. Set your self up for failure and frankly, you have already failed.
One of the big lifestyle changes that I have already started this past year will be to continue to learn about the foods I am putting in my body. This will include researching the proper "fuels" for my long runs and all of my other athletic endeavors. Thankfully, I have my loving girlfriend, Amber by my side who has been there and done that (a 24 hour run, a 12 hour run, marathons etc.). She truly amazes me and inspires me every single day to do my best.
All of the thought, preparation and training will put me in line to meet my goal in late April and I couldn't be more excited about it. I will be blogging about my adventures as I take this journey along with some of my healthy eating tips, training regimens and of course the obstacles I will face. Here's to an already great 2014 and all that it has to offer!
